Vice Dean for Faculty Affairs
Dr. Pinkston received his Ph.D. in 1993 from Stanford University and is a Fellow of the IEEE. He has served on the Viterbi School’s faculty for 16 years. From September of 2003 to December of 2005, he served as the director of EE’s Computer Engineering Division, and in 2004 and 2005 as Chair of the Engineering Faculty Council. From January of 2006 until December of 2008, Timothy served as a Program Director in the Directorate for Computer & Information Science and Engineering (CISE) at the National Science Foundation (NSF), where he managed an award portfolio of ~$10.7 million (FY’07) for CISE’s Computer Systems Architecture program and $40 million (FY’08) for CISE’s flagship Expeditions in Computing program in its inaugural year. While at NSF, Dr. Pinkston served on a number of task forces and working groups, including CISE’s Strategic Planning Committee for Broadening Participation in Computing. Prior to his NSF appointment, he served on the university’s Task Force on Graduate Education and chaired the Dean’s Ad Hoc Committee to Promote Diversity in Viterbi’s Graduate Programs.
Timothy has published over 100 technical articles and book chapters on topics related to computer systems architecture. He has served on editorial and organizing committees of prestigious journals and conferences, including IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, ACM/IEEE International Symposium on Computer Architecture, IEEE International Symposium on High Performance Computer Architecture, and IEEE International Parallel and Distributed Processing Symposium.
