Financial Aid

Paying for college is one of the most important investments most families make. We recommend for all families (U.S. citizens or eligible residents) to apply for financial aid regardless of family circumstances and even if you have applied for aid at a different university in the past. We suggest you submit your FAFSA and CSS PROFILE as soon as possible. You and your parents’ tax returns for 2008 should be submitted as soon as possible (Early March is recommended). This will help us be able to notify you of your financial aid eligibility in advance of the May 1st national candidates' reply date. Families unable to meet the recommended deadlines are still strongly encouraged to apply and will still be considered for all available funds.

If you have not already done so, make sure and complete the following steps.

  1. Register for and complete the 2009-2010 CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE® application as soon as possible
        Register online at www.collegeboard.com/profile or
        Call CSS at (305) 829-9793 to request a Profile application.
        * Be sure to use USC's CSS school code: 4852
  2. Complete the 2009-2010 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as soon as possible.
        Submit your FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov using your best estimates of 2008 income
        * Enter USC's FAFSA school code: 001328
  3. Fax complete, signed copies of your and your parents’ 2008 federal income tax returns (including all W-2 forms and schedules) as soon as possible to:
        USC Financial Aid Office
        FAX: 213 821 3717
    If you or your parents will not be filing a tax return, complete a Student or Parent Non-Filing Statement and submit it as soon as possible.

  4. California Residents Only: Apply for a Cal Grant by completing a Cal Grant GPA Verification Form.  Like the FAFSA, this form can be obtained from your high school or local college.  It must be sent to the California Student Aid Commission by early March, 2009.
        * You must also complete the 2009-2010 FAFSA to be considered for a Cal Grant.

  5. The Financial Aid Office may contact some families in the spring to request additional information.  If you are asked to provide such materials, please respond promptly to expedite the evaluation of the financial aid application.

  6. (if applicable) Fax the 2009-2010 USC Custodial Parent Form with appropriate documentation to the Financial Aid Office.
        * This form is required only if your custodial parent is currently single, divorced, separated, remarried, or was never married.
