About the Department
USC Electrical Engineering is known for research and academic leadership in innovative areas such as: adaptive and reconfigurable mixed signal integrated circuits; antenna networks; bio-signal processing; computer architecture; very-large-scale integration (VLSI) and computer-aided design (CAD); computer networks; control systems; high speed switching architectures; signal, image and multimedia processing; nanotechnology; optical communications; photonics; and quantum information processing.

With an MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Hughes, TRW, or Qualcomm may hire you to design the next hot communication product. As the single largest employer in Southern California you could work behind the scenes at Universal Studios, Disney Animation Studio, Warner Brothers Digital Studio, Espectra, or Digital Domain holding a MS degree in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Multimedia and Creative Technologies. Or with the MS Computer Engineering degree, Intel, IBM or the entire Silicon Valley may be knocking at your door. A graduate degree from USC can be earned in one full year of study, and may include classes in Computer Science, Math, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, and Material Science as well as the excellent core Electrical Engineering courses.

Please submit the following, if necessary, to the USC Office of Graduate Admission via the online application system by clicking here.

  1. Statement of Purpose (optional)
    • The statement of purpose should describe succinctly your reasons for applying to the proposed program at the Viterbi School of Engineering, your preparation for this field of study, study interests, future career plans, and other aspects of your background and interests which may aid the admissions committee in evaluating your aptitude and motivation for graduate study.

  2. Two Letters of Recommendation
    • Letters of recommendation should be from faculty or others (supervisors, professional colleagues, etc.) qualified to evaluate your potential for graduate study. If unable to submit through the online application, letters should be submitted on official letterhead. 
Please arrange to have the following sent to the USC Office of Admission (USC Graduate Office of Admission, University Park Campus, Los Angeles, CA  90089-0915):
  1. Official Transcript(s) from all post-secondary schools you have attended, and official translations if they are not in English.
  2. Official general GRE scores (no older than 5 years) sent through ETS to the University of Southern California, ETS code 4852.
  3. Official TOEFL scores (for international students, no older than 2 years) sent through ETS to the Universtiy of California, ETS code 4852.
