Every Ph.D. applicant is automatically considered for assistantships and fellowships. In 2008-2009 the School supported 113 full fellowships, 162 teaching assistantships and 384 research assistantships.
Fellowships are awarded based on exceptional merit and consist of the following:
The USC Annenberg Graduate Fellowship Program
The Provost’s Graduate Fellowship Program
The Viterbi Dean’s Doctoral Fellowship Program
All Fellows receive full tuition and payment of health and dental insurance year-round. Annenberg and Provost’s Fellows receive $30,000 toward living expenses for four years, including at least two years in the form of Fellowship and the remaining two years consisting of teaching and/or research assistantships with a supplemental stipend. Viterbi Fellows receive a stipend of $30,000 in the first year, and, in years two, three and four, they will hold teaching and/or research assistantships and receive an additional $5000 top-off stipend.

Eligibility and Deadlines
Applicants to Ph.D. programs in engineering for the 2009-2010 academic year are eligible for assistantship and fellowship consideration provided that they have completed the application for admission and have submitted all supporting documents no later than January 1, for entrance in the following Fall Semester, and preferably by December 1st.
