Financing Your USC Education

USC is committed to helping students finance their undergraduate education.  Need-based financial assistance, merit scholarships and affordable financing programs can put a USC education within the reach of students.

USC administers a robust financial aid program.  Undergraduate financial aid includes need-based grants, merit scholarships, low-interest loans, and work-study.  USC has a long tradition of meeting 100% of the USC-determined financial need for those undergraduate students who satisfy all eligibility requirements and deadlines.

Not all students will qualify for need-based aid.  USC offers a wide array of ways to pay for college, including installment plans, prepayment plans and long-term financing options.

Non-US citizens are not eligible for need-based financial aid.  However, all students are eligible to compete for university merit scholarships.

How to Apply for Aid

To apply for 2010-2011 financial aid, complete the steps below.  It is important to apply for admission and financial aid concurrently.  The earlier you apply, the sooner you will hear from us.  We suggest that you submit your FAFSA and PROFILE around the same time that you submit your application for admission.  You can apply after this time, but you should complete all steps as soon as possible.

Additional steps and/or documents may be required; please respond to any requests from USC for additional materials as quickly as possible.

CSS Profile
Register for and complete the 2010-2011 CSS Financial Aid PROFILE as soon as possible.  Complete the PROFILE using your best estimates of 2009 income.  Enter USC’s CSS School code: 4852.

FAFSA
Complete a 2010-2011 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible after Jan. 1, 2010.  Use your best estimates of 2009 income.  On your FAFSA, fill in USC’s Federal School code: 001328.

Apply for a Cal Grant
If you are a California resident, a Cal Grant is worth approximately $9,700 annually at USC.  Have the registrar at the school you currently attend or have most recently attended complete a Cal Grant GPA Verification form and submit it to the California Student Aid Commission as soon as possible.  GPA Verification forms are available from your high school or the college you currently attend.

Note to Transfer Students: If you are currently receiving a Cal Grant for attendance at another institution, you will need to transfer your Cal Grant to USC.  To do so, request a Cal Grant Record Change Form for Students from the California Student Aid Commission at (888) CA–GRANT.

Federal Tax Returns
Fax complete copies of your and your parents’ signed 2009 federal income tax returns including all schedules and W–2 forms to the USC Financial Aid Office as soon as possible after Jan. 1, 2010.  If you are not legally required to file a federal income tax form for 2009, complete the 2010-2011 Student Non-Filing Statement.  If your parents are not legally required to file a federal income tax form for 2008, they will need to submit a 2010-2011 Parent Non-Filing Statement form.
Respond to Requests
Please be sure to promptly respond to all requests for additional documentation by the USC Financial Aid Office.  If you have any questions about the requested information, please contact the Viterbi Office of Admission & Student Affairs at (800) 526-3347.
