Identifying Transferable Coursework
As a prospective engineering transfer student to USC it makes practical sense to take courses that will
prepare you for engineering and transfer to USC for credit. USC has several resources to help you identify transferable coursework at your institution. If you attend a California Community College you can use the
Transfer Planning Guide (TPG). The TPG will allow you to choose transferable courses from your California Community College based on your intended major. TPGs are also available for some four-year institutions, including some UCs and CSUs.
If you attend a community college or a four-year institution that is not listed on the TPG website, you should review the USC Articulation Histories website. Articulation Histories will display courses that have transferred to USC for credit in the past and therefore may list few courses if few students have transferred from that school. However, many more courses from that school may be transferable. If you attend an academic institution that USC does not have a TPG with you should contact us so we can help identify likely transferable coursework.
Finally, remember that it is not required that your coursework is transferable to be admissiable. We recommend, from a practical standpoint, that your coursework be transferable. We recommend that you have completed or have in progress (in the spring) the following when you apply for transfer:
- Calculus II
- Two Semesters of a Lab-Based Science
- USC's Writing Requirement
- International Applicants Whose Native Language is Not English Must Also Submit a TOEFL score - Learn More
- 30 Transferable Semester Units or 45 Quarter Units
