Don Gunther

 
Don graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1971.  He flew the Navy’s P-3 Orion in the Pacific for 20 years and is a retired Naval Reservist.
 
He joined Continental Airlines in 1977.  He is qualified as Captain and Instructor Pilot on the B-727, B-737, B-757 and B-767.  He was previously the Manager of Human Factors and responsible for managing the 2000 Line Operation Safety Audit (LOSA) at Continental.  He managed the team that developed the “Threat and Error Mangement” (TEM) training program and applied the TEM process to several training and safety programs.
 
Don is currently the Senior Director of Safety & Regulatory Compliance at Continental Airlines.  He is responsible for Flight and Ground Safety and the management and administration of the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), LOSA and the Flight Operation Quality Assurance (FOQA) program for Continental Airlines.  He is a member of the ASAP Event Review Committee (ERC).
 
Recently, Don finished his term as the Chairman of the IATA Human Factors Working Group and Chairman of the ATA Human Factors Committee and Automation Subcommittee.  He is currently a member of the FAA FOQA & ASAP Aviation Rule Committee (ARC).  He is the chairman of the Issue Identification and Review Subcommittee for the Aviation Safety Information Sharing Process (ASISP) dealing with shared FOQA data.
