Program Overview
The Executive Aviation Safety Symposium is a 2 day, executive-level seminar specifically tailored for decision-makers within aviation organizations. The title of the symposium, A Safe Operation – A Viable Business highlights the main focus of the program - to create an understanding of aviation safety within the current framework of organizations who are responsible for the ongoing viability and profitability of an aviation enterprise.
While the likelihood of an accident is very small it does remain a possibility. This symposium will describe what organizational measures can be taken to reduce this possibility to the absolute minimum. Representatives of the insurance and legal professions will also address risk management from their own particular perspectives. A discussion of the responsibilities associated with the upcoming ICAO and the FAA regulations will also be addressed.
The USC Aviation Safety and Security Program represents fifty-eight years of unparalleled excellence in aviation safety education. Join executive-level members of the aviation community and an impressive list of speakers in an intimate setting on the University of Southern California campus.
Optional Sunday Tutorial
There will be an optional tutorial Sunday afternoon on corporate communications during crisis situations. Linda Tavlin, instructor for this tutorial, is an international consultant and instructor who has trained aviation organizations the world over. Linda has trained succesful organizations such as Air France and Swiss Air. Communication lessons will be learned from these and other organizations who have maintained a high level of success as well as organizations who have failed in post-accident relations. Attendees can analyze their organization to determine how policies currently mirror the strategies in place by those who "got it right" or "got it wrong." The instruction will include cutting edge recommendations to prevent the mistakes of other organizations. This tutorial will focus on safety communications rather than public relations.
Instructors
Participants will have the opportunity to network with fellow executives in the aviation field, with presentations by such industry experts as Capt. Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger; Professor Warren Bennis, the author of the management classic On Becoming a Leader; the Honorable Robert Sumwalt of the NTSB; and Mr. William Voss, President of the Flight Safety Foundation and Jody Hoffer-Gittell, the author of the bestselling book on creating a successful organizational culture The Southwest Airlines Way. There will also be speakers from the USC Aviation Safety and Security Program, including Mike Barr, expert in Aviation Safety Management Systems.
