The Job Search Process

The USC Viterbi School of Engineering Career Services office understands the job search process can sometimes be frustrating and confusing. Many students struggle as they begin to explore career options and are not sure how to get started. We are here to help you sort out the process and get you headed down the right path!

After utilizing ,  the following resources are great ways to continue your job search process. These will allow you to explore and gather information that will aid you in making informed career decisions.

Workshops

Attending a career-related workshop is a great way to begin gathering information about the job search process. Career Services offers a number of workshops throughout the year on career-related topics including resume writing, internships and co-ops, networking, and many more. Be sure to check the Viterbi Calendar of Events often for information about upcoming workshops.

The Occupational Outlook Handbook is compiled by the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics.  This is a great source for general descriptions of career fields, working conditions, as well as expected earnings and job prospects.  The link below will take you to a page with the Engineering-related entries highlighted.

The conference is offered every fall semester and is designed specifically for undergraduate engineering students - freshmen through seniors. This event is a great way for you to gather a lot of information about the job search process all in one day! In addition to helping you develop valuable job search skills, the conference allows you to begin connecting with company representatives and alumni who present workshops on career-related topics, conduct mock interviews, and give resume critiques.
In addition to attending workshops and other events like the career conference, students beginning their job search process should learn about the benefits of networking and informational interviewing.
