Featured throughout the Corporate and Foundation Relations portion of VSoE Giving website, is the art of the Viterbi Museum.
THE ARTIST: SANDRO CHIA
Born in Florence in 1946. Studied at the Istituto d'Arte and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. Sandro Chia was commissioned by the Viterbi School for the original works covering the walls and ceiling in the Viterbi Museum, located in Ronald Tutor Hall on the campus of USC.
THE INSPIRATION: ERNA & ANDREW VITERBI
The Viterbi Museum honors benefactors Erna and Andrew Viterbi. Dr. Viterbi, a USC alumnus is the originator of the Viterbi Algorithm, a mathematical formula to eliminate signal interference, paving the way for the use of cellular technology and wireless communications worldwide.
Chia's impressionist-style murals feature the Viterbis' family life, as well as overlapping faces that symbolize the lives that have been, and will continue to be connected through their influence and achievements.
