ISE's Daniel J. Epstein Receives President's Award from Institute of Industrial Engineers

July 16, 2006 —
Daniel J. Epstein
Daniel J. Epstein of the Viterbi School’s Industrial and Systems Engineering Department has received the Presidents Award from the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) for his leadership and significant commitments to the department, which he named in 2003.

One of five recipients, Epstein was honored at the institute’s awards ceremony in mid-July in Norcross, Georgia.

The President's Award is new in 2006 and bestowed on “those who have made significant commitments to leading industrial engineering programs that have resulted in named industrial engineering departments,” according to IIE.  “These significant contributions enhance the profession as well as heighten awareness and improve public understanding of the value of industrial engineering to contemporary society. “

Epstein is chairman and founder of the ConAm Group of Companies, a privately owned apartment management, ownership, and development firm operating 60,000 apartments throughout the United States.  He graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in industrial engineering.  The USC Viterbi School named the Daniel J. Epstein Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering in his honor.

IIE is the world's largest professional society dedicated solely to the support of the industrial engineering profession and individuals involved with improving quality, processes, and productivity.

Founded in 1948, IIE is an international, non-profit association that provides leadership for the application,
education, training, research, and development of industrial engineering.
