American Society of Civil Engineers Honors Structural Engineer Sami Masri

April 02, 2007 — Professor Sami Masri has been chosen the 2007 recipient of the Newmark Medal from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
Sami Masri

The award was established in 1975 by ASCE’s Engineering Mechanics Division and Structural Engineering Division to honor Nathan M. Newmark, a renowned educator and researcher in the field of engineering mechanics and structural engineering.

The award is given each year to a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers who, through contributions in structural mechanics, has helped substantially to strengthen the scientific base of structural engineering.  Contributions can be in the form of papers or other written presentations. The broad field of structural mechanics includes continuum mechanics related to structural and geotechnical engineering.

Masri is being honored “for his vision and leadership in the field of structural control and structural health monitoring, and for his contributions to the technical development and professional validation of this emerging field."

He will accept the award at an awards banquet to be held June 4, 2007.
