The Viterbi School Doctoral Fellowships
The Viterbi School provides fellowships to gifted doctoral students
in all fields of engineering. The selection process emphasizes superior academic record, demonstrated research experience and potential for completing the independent, original, scholarly research in his or her chosen field that is expected of every Ph.D. student.
The Annenberg Fellowships
(through The USC Graduate School)
The Annenberg Fellowships fund PhD students who conduct communication-related research and advance important new programs
in the communication arena. Funding for the USC Annenberg Graduate Fellowship Program is made possible by the Annenberg Center Endowment.
The Provost’s Fellowships
(through The USC Graduate School)
The Provost’s Fellowship program funds annually up to 100 of USC’s best and brightest PhD students in all areas across the discipline spectrum.
Fellowship Benefits
All Fellows receive full tuition and payment of health and dental insurance year round for four years.
Annenberg and Provost’s Fellows receive $30,000 toward living expenses for four years, including at least two years in the form of Fellowship and the remaining two years consisting of teaching and/or research assistantships with a supplemental stipend.
Viterbi Fellows receive a stipend of $30,000 in the first year, and, in years two, three and four, they will hold teaching and/or research assistantships and receive an additional $5,000 top-off stipend per year.
Application and Selection
Students apply online to the PhD program of their choice and submit all required supporting documentation (transcripts, GRE scores, a statement of their academic and professional goals, and at least 3 letters of recommendation). There is no separate Fellowship application. Admission applications undergo a rigorous review by faculty in each engineering department. Faculty select students who show outstanding promise as scholars and researchers, and nominate them to the Office of the Dean for the Viterbi Fellowships, and to the Graduate School for the Annenberg and Provost’s Fellowships. Annenberg and Provost’s Fellowhip selections are announced to individual students by the Graduate School. Viterbi Fellows selected are notified by their department.
Eligibility
Applicants to PhD programs in engineering for the 2008-2009 academic year are eligible for fellowship consideration, provided that they have completed the application for admission and have submitted all supporting documents no later than January 1, 2008. Earlier application, by December 1, 2007, is recommended.
