The RIT College of Applied Science and Technology (CAST) civil engineering technology, environmental management and safety (CETEMS) department is currently seeking applications from exceptional candidates for a tenure-track position in the Facility Management program. The successful candidate will have the unique and exciting responsibility of further developing a new MS degree program in facility management at RIT. Workload assignments will include teaching, service, and an allocation of time to engage in scholarship supporting a department-defined area of focus consistent with a university goal of transitioning to a more scholarship-intensive profile. Responsibilities will include graduate course and curriculum development in facility management; teaching online graduate-level courses; supervising graduate projects; providing academic advising for graduate students; service on department, college and institute committees; and maintenance of professional and technical capabilities.

REQUIRED/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
o Ph.D. or earned doctorate in an appropriate discipline, or ABD with completion date prior to September 1, 2009
o Three years of current industrial or consulting experience in facility management or related field
o Ability to teach online graduate courses in three of the following areas:
o Principles and practices of facility management
o Operations and maintenance
o Human and environmental factors
o Real estate
o Leadership and management
o Space planning
o Digital technology

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
o Professional engineer license
o Prior teaching experience
o Certified Facility Manager (CFM) status or Facility Management Professional status with documented progress
towards CFM
o Demonstrated research and scholarship activities
o Extensive industrial experience
o Leadership and managerial experience
o Cross-functional experience or knowledge in the department's other program areas: civil engineering technology, construction management, environmental management, or safety technology
o Leadership role in a related association


THE DEPARTMENT: The CETEMS department has 9 full-time faculty, 25 part-time faculty, and 300 students. CETEMS offers three bachelor of science and two master of science degree programs. Each program uses project-based education to prepare students in their field of study and has required co-operative industrial experience. RIT and the department have a strong career focus in their programs and thus have an outstanding record of successfully preparing students for industry. CETEMS recently moved to its new building that features state-of-the-art facilities.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION:

The successful applicant's duties would include teaching deaf and hard-of-hearing students in Computer Integrated Machining Technology (CIMT). CIMT students prepare for employment in the fields of precision machining and precision optics manufacturing. Courses to be taught could include the following: Engineering Fundamentals, Manufacturing Processes, Computer Numerical Control, Precision Measurement, Basic and Advanced Blueprint Reading, Industrial Materials, Industrial Processes. Other duties would include providing tutoring support to deaf and hard-of-hearing students taking similar courses in other colleges of RIT.

Areas of expertise should include the following: manufacturing processes (CNC, Lathe, Milling, Grinding, etc.), manufacturing automation, and precision measurement.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in Technical/Industrial Education, Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering Technology and have 5 years of precision machining or precision Optics manufacturing, including experience in CNC, 3D CAD modeling, and MasterCam. We seek applicants with evidence of a commitment to engineering education, student mentoring, and professional development. The successful candidate will be expected to teach core mechanical skill sets. Sign language proficiency is required.

PREFERRED:
Strongly preferred: Full-time secondary or post-secondary teaching; industry experience; working knowledge or manufacturing processes equipment and software. Masters degrees in Technical/Industrial Education, or Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering Technology.

FACULTY POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

Position:                        The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the assistant, associate, or full professor level in the field of RF coil design for MRI systems for the Auburn University MRI Research Center (AUMRIRC).  Scheduled to open in the fall of 2010, this new facility will contain a state-of-the-art open-bore 3T human scanner and a 7T actively-shielded, whole-body scanner with 8 parallel transmit channels, 128 receive channels, and multinuclear capability.  The candidate selected for this position will have the opportunity to assist in the development of a new imaging program.

 

Responsibilities:             The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the growth of the AUMRIRC through the development of an externally-funded research program, collaborate with researchers from different disciplines across campus, direct graduate students, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and be involved in service to the department and profession.

 

Qualifications:               A Ph.D. or equivalent in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, physics or a closely related field is required.  Experience with MR imaging and RF coil design for 3T systems and higher is desired.  Preference will be given to candidates with experience on 7T systems.  The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment; excellent communication skills required.

The L. C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Specific areas of interest are:

Faculty Position Opportunity Charles E. Via, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Virginia Tech

 

The Charles E. Via, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Virginia Tech invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions effective August 2010. One of these positions is geared towards a faculty member who will contribute to the Department's Vecellio Construction Engineering and Management Program (CEM); the other position is geared towards a faculty member who will contribute to the Department's Structural Engineering and Materials Program (SEM). A Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering or a closely aligned field is required. The positions are anticipated to be filled at the Assistant Professor rank, however junior Associate Professor level appointments may be considered for outstanding candidates. Candidates with specific research expertise in resilient and sustainable civil infrastructure systems are particularly encouraged to apply. The CEE Department currently has 46 faculty members, with approximately 350 full-time graduate students and 700 undergraduate students. The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology invites applications for a tenure track
faculty position anticipated to be filled at the Assistant Professor level, although a higher rank may be considered for

graduate courses as well as develop externally funded research, supervise undergraduate student design teams and

The Department has a strong commitment to engineering education and offers Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and

The Arkansas Center for Laser Applications and Science at Arkansas State University is seeking multiple postdoctoral research associates to join a multidisciplinary university/industry team investigating photocatalytic oxidation of bacteria for disinfection purposes. Successful candidates should have a recent Ph.D. in bioengineering, biophysics, biochemistry, physical chemistry, applied physics, engineering or other relevant discipline with a strong background in experimental research. Experience in optical methods such as fluorescence and other optical diagnostics is highly desirable. Team members with microbiological experience are already in place and we seek to complement them with the physics/chemistry/engineering expertise necessary for this project.

The Department of Electrical Engineering seeks to fill a tenure track position starting Fall 2010 at the assistant professor level. 

Qualifications:  B.S. in electrical engineering and Ph.D. in electrical engineering or a closely related field completed by July 1, 2010.  The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and other undergraduate activities.  The successful candidate will have at least one year of teaching experience at the minimum level of teaching assistant in an engineering program.  Teaching experience above the TA level, industrial experience, and professional registration are preferred.  The candidate should be able to teach a broad spectrum of EE courses including laboratories.   We encourage strong candidates in the areas of power systems, power electronics, motor drives, renewable energy, controls, and digital electronics to apply.  He or she must have enthusiasm for professional engagement with students in and out of the class room.  The applicant must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.  The candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to or experience with racially diverse populations.

Post-Doctoral Research Associate: Interdisciplinary Geospatial Research

Description of job responsibilities:
The successful candidate will work with an interdisciplinary team of researchers to develop the data infrastructure necessary to support a regional observatory for hydrology and ecology. This person will interact with the project team to identify and gather relevant geospatial data.  They will work within a university-wide GIS Commons to integrate these datasets using relevant geodatabase standards, and develop the cyberinfrastructure support to enable modeling tools to access and utilize this data.
 
This position will enable the successful candidate to conduct research and publish within an emerging theme of interdisciplinary modeling of hydrology and ecology.  The position will support regional activities related to national efforts of the Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Sciences, Inc. (CUAHSI).
 
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Engineering, Geography, or related field.
  • Excellent ArcGIS experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in computer modeling in the candidate’s area of expertise

UMBC's Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Department is seeking applications for tenure-track Assistant and Associate Professor positions in Computer Engineering. The CSEE department is a research-oriented, combined Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering department, with 38 full time faculty. The department has 800 undergraduates, 211 MS students, and 118 PhD students and had 6 million dollars in research expenditures in FY 09. CSEE faculty at UMBC are partners in the NSF Engineering Research Center on Mid-InfraRed Technologies for Health and the Environment (MIRTHE). UMBC leads the newly established collaborative NSF Industry University Cooperative Research Center on Hybrid Muliticore Productivity Research. Associate/Full Professor - Mining Engineering and Rock Mechanics

 

The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Toronto invites applications for a prestigious W.M. Keck Chair to be associated with the Lassonde Institute for Engineering Geoscience and the Lassonde Mineral Engineering Program. This appointment is a tenure stream position at the Associate or Full Professor level. The appointment to this position will be made 1 July 2010, or as soon as possible thereafter. 

Candidates for the Chair should be exceptional researchers in areas such as mining engineering and rock mechanics, where the University has internationally recognized research strength, or other areas of the engineering geosciences that relate to the mineral and energy sectors. The successful candidate must have a distinguished record of scholarship including undergraduate and graduate teaching and significant experience in managing major multi-disciplinary research projects.

Canada Research Chair, Assistant/Associate Professor - Aerospace Studies

 

The University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies (UTIAS) is seeking applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Aerospace Engineering. The successful applicant will be nominated for a Tier II Canada Research Chair (www.chairs.gc.ca). The appointment will begin on or after July 1, 2010. 

We seek applicants whose primary area of research is related to high-fidelity multi-disciplinary optimization, as applied to aircraft design. However, consideration will be given to applicants with expertise in any area related to aerospace science and engineering. Preference will be given to applicants who will contribute to the UTIAS strategic focus on reducing the environmental impact of aircraft. Experience with large-scale computing is also an asset; the University of Toronto’s supercomputer ranked 16th in the June 2009 Top 500 ranking. Applicants must have a doctoral degree, typically from an aerospace or mechanical engineering department, and a strong commitment to both teaching and research. 

The successful candidate is expected to establish and lead a dynamic research program, supervise graduate students, and teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The selection will be based primarily on the applicant’s potential for excellence in research and teaching. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The department offers bachelor and master degree programs in both Electrical Engineering and Microelectronic Engineering, with concentrations in biomedical engineering, communications, controls, digital/computer systems, electromagnetic fields, electronic devices and materials, signal/image processing, integrated circuit design, microelectronic manufacturing and micro-lithographic processes, and Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS).  State-of-the-art facilities include well-established research laboratories in RF/analog/mixed-signal design, integrated microsystems, multi-agent bio-robotics, electromagnetic, optoelectronics and photonics, and signal/image/video processing.  The college is home to a 10,000 sq. ft. clean room facility which has a full CMOS fabrication line, enables leading edge research in microelectronics and microsystems, and supports the nations' only ABET accredited BS degree program in Microelectronic Engineering.  Department faculty participate in multi-disciplinary Ph.D. programs in Microsystems Engineering, Imaging Science, Computing and Information Sciences, Color Science, and Sustainability.
