Student Organization Support (SOS) Funding

Funding available from the Viterbi School of Engineering is administered through the Admission & Student Affairs Office via Student Organization Support (SOS). SOS funding is endowment based and limited. Due to the endowed nature of funds the amount available varies from year to year. SOS funds are intended as a supplement to the funds Viterbi student organizations receive from other sources

SOS is the last place from which organizations should seek funds and groups should never rely solely on this source to fund an entire event, program, or conference.

The application process to request funds from this account was created to organize and streamline the process, and to reduce the number of reimbursements processed by our office. This process will allow student organizations to receive funding request decisions in a timely manner.

Details

• All student organizations that are affiliated with and approved by the Viterbi School of Engineering are eligible to request SOS funding.
• Only complete applications will be accepted and reviewed once each month.
• Applications that meet the respective month’s deadline (typically the 15th of each month) will receive notification of the funding decision and amount (if applicable) by the 1st business day of the following month.
• Viterbi Account Expense Forms must be submitted in order to process approved amounts towards vendor payment or reimbursement.

2011-2012 Deadlines & Decisions
Below are the deadline and decision dates for SOS funding this year. All completed applications received by each date listed below will have a decision announced no later than the respective decision date. Any application received after normal business hours (5:00 PM) on the deadlines listed below will be reviewed under the following month’s deadline and decision date.

Account Expense Forms
If your organization receives approval for SOS funding make sure to complete the Account Expense Form in order to process payment to a vendor or receive reimbursement.

Be sure to read all the instructions and make yourself with the University's Policies and Procedures related to all funding expenditures prior to completing the form.  All completed forms with proper supporting documentation should be submitted to the front desk of RTH 110.

Post Event Reports
If your organization receives funding from any of the above sources a Post Event Report is required to be filed with the Viterbi Admission & Student Affairs Office no later than 5 business days following the funded event.

Post Event Reports should be written reports including, but are not limited to, an executive summary of the event, an expense report of all funding used (regardless of source) and its purpose, a roster of attendance including USCID's and your board's critical evaluation of the event with thoughts for improvement if the event were to be held again.

Completed Post Event Reports should be handed in to the front desk at RTH 110.
