Exploring Engineering
If you are applying to the Viterbi School as a Freshman or Transfer student and wondering whether engineering is the right major for you, please contact the
Admission Staff in the Viterbi School to learn more about the different majors
If you are a current USC student thinking about changing your major to Engineering, or an Undeclared Engineering student, your first step in exploring engineering is to talk to an academic advisor about your options.
Other good ways for current students to explore engineering include:
- Read up on the classes you might take as an engineering student in the Undergraduate Bulletin
- Learn about the research being conducted in the USC Viterbi School of Engineering.
- Talk to an engineering student or faculty member about the field that interests you. Email Monica De Los Santos to be put in touch with either a fellow student or a faculty member.
- Do some research about career opportunities available to you with different majors
- Attend the Engineering Career Fairs (held once each semester) to learn more about which companies recruit engineers from USC
- Go to a “Job Talks” seminar for a field that interests you
- Do some online research. Find a company that interests you, and see what qualifications are required for their positions.
- Attend a Spotlight series seminar to hear from alumni, faculty, and current students about the particular field in engineering. Contact Monica De Los Santos for the most recent schedule.
