AP classes
The Advanced Placement Program® (AP®) allows students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school. Students who participate in the Program not only gain college-level skills, but in many cases they also earn college credit while they are still in high school. AP courses are taught by dedicated and enthusiastic high school teachers who follow course guidelines developed and published by the College Board.
Honors classes
Honors classes and programs for intellectually gifted students are available, along with enriched classes specifically geared to serve college preparatory students. Honors classes are significantly more challenging and difficult in experience, assessment, and projects.
Honors Points
The UC GPA and the high school GPA are often calculated differently. UC calculates the GPA using all UC-approved courses completed in the 'a-g' subject areas in the 10th and 11th grades. School rankings are likely to be based on a different GPA, so the school ranking will be different than the UC ranking. UC awards a bonus point for UC-certified honors courses. UC-approved honors courses are underlined and are marked with a yellow star on the high school's
Doorways course list. All honors courses are used in calculating the GPA. All AP courses are considered UC-approved honors courses whether they appear on the Doorways course list or not.
