First Year Advising
Advising is mandatory for all four years at the Viterbi School. Advisors in the Division of Admission and Student Affairs are here to help you and make your first year here successful! All freshmen students are advised through the Division of Admission and Student Affairs at the Viterbi School. All undergraduate students are assigned a freshmen advisor. Advisors work with new Viterbi students beginning at Orientation and through the end of the spring semester of freshmen year.
Freshmen advisors help students understand the various options in engineering majors and programs as well as degree requirements and university policies and procedures. Along with course scheduling and registration, advisors work with students to set academic and career goals as well as realistic paths to reach these goals.

Advisement Appointments
Viterbi Freshmen can schedule advising appointments by accessing their advisor's schedule online on myUSC portal (click on "Advisement" tab on top). If you need to schedule an appointment with a different FYE advisor or have problems with the system, please call the Admission and Student Affairs Division at (213) 740-4530.
Before registering for classes, students are required to make an appointment to discuss courses for the next semester as well as tentative long-term plan. Appointments also allow students to have scheduled one-on-one time with their advisors to discuss any other issues that may come up throughout the year.
Walk-In Advisement
Walk-in advisement sessions are available in RTH 110 on a first come, first served basis as listed below. The purpose of walk-in advisement is to allow students to stop in with quck questions that doesn't require a full advisement session or if the issue is too urgent to wait for their advisor's next available appointment time.
