KIUEL's Weekend For Leaders
August 18 - 20 2006
The KIUEL Weekend for Leaders the kick off event for the Klein Institute. It was held at Camp Whittier in Santa Barbara, CA for the Presidents and Vice-Presidents of all Viterbi student organizations (33 students participated). The program was designed to bring the Viterbi Student Council (VSC) together for team building and leadership activities that would foster a strong community of leaders and encourage collaboration for programs and events throughout the year. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) (Part 1 of the KIUEL Leadership Series)

This program focused on helping students discover their individual leadership style. Results from their individual personality inventory were discussed with a staff member from the Career Planning and Placement Center (CPPC).

Leadership Team Building & Business Strategy (Part 3 of the KIUEL Leadership Series)

Mr. Peter Kaufman (Chairman and CEO, Glenair) and Dr. Alexis Livanos (Corporate Vice President, Northrop Grumman Space Technology Division) will describe what they have learned about applying engineering and hard science skills and the lessons of life to leadership and team-building. Both have found that the fundamental principles of engineering have rich and valuable application in the business world. The presentation will center on sustained competitive advantage, ethics, the importance of trust, and achieving business success in harmony with a balanced, meaningful life.
Project Management Workshop
The Project Management Workshop took place on Tuesday, September 12th. The workshop was held to provide support to leaders of project groups that will be submitting a project to a regional or national competition. Nine student leaders representing five student project groups were in attendance. An overview of funding options for the groups was given and was followed by a presentation on project management by Candace House, Director of Viterbi Career Services. Download the presentation
Viterbi Tailgate
October 14, 2006 2pm EQUAD
Students and alumni came together to tailgate before the USC vs. Arizona Sate game! They enjoyed some famous Earle's Grill hotdogs, chili, chips and drinks in the EQUAD and watched live coverage of out of town college football games on multiple screens in our broadcast corner.

Viterbi Book Club
There was an Informational Meeting held on September 15, 2006 about the Viterbi Book Club. The Viterbi Book Club will be led by a faculty member from the Engineering Writing Program and will also include engineering faculty and staff. Books will range from short stories to science fiction and groups will meet periodically to discuss and share feedback on the books. Vision and Voices
Vision and Voices is a university-wide initiative that began in Fall 2006 for all USC students to enjoy the arts and humanities regardless of their major. With an exciting lineup of more than 70 events annually, such as an evening with Spike Lee, visits to L.A.’s architectural landmarks, international film festivals and a conversation with world-renowned author T.C. Boyle, Visions and Voices provides a very special experience for USC students and contributes to making USC a truly global university. Service Learning & Globalization
Technology Application Program (TAP)
The Viterbi Engineering Writing Program and the Alexander Science Center School were awarded a USC University Neighborhood Outreach grant to fund the Technology Advancement Program (TAP). The purpose of this project was to upgrade the student computer lab at the Alexander School, to train faculty and parents of students in computer use and software applications and to form and train a technical team comprised of students who will troubleshoot hardware and software problems on the Alexander School campus. An information session was held on August 30th.
