Application Instructions

The following is an example of how a student should navigate through the application process:
  1. Identify the master’s degree you would like to pursue. Be sure to identify a specific Program of Study (POST) that you intend to follow; enter the post code and unit requirement on the PDP application worksheet.
  2. If your intended Master’s program is outside the Viterbi School, you must meet with the Director of Admission in the Viterbi Admission and Student Affairs Office (RTH 110) before proceeding with the application.
  3. Start with your undergraduate advisor and begin a draft of the Proposed Course Plan and get the undergraduate department signature indicating the plan meets all requirements for the Bachelor’s degree.
  4. See a graduate advisor in the department for the intended master’s degree to complete the draft of the Proposed Course Plan and get the graduate department signature indicating the plan meets all requirements for the Master’s degree. Students also have the option to see a graduate advisor in the Viterbi Office of Master’s and Professional Programs (OHE 106).
  5. Fill out the entire PDP application worksheet. Unit and GPA information is available through OASIS on both your STARS report and your Transfer Credit Report.
  6. Fill out and sign the Application for Admission to Progressive Master’s Program form
  7. Secure two (2) letters of recommendation from faculty who can speak directly to your preparation for your intended Master’s Program.
  8. Submit complete application packet to the Viterbi Admission and Student Affairs Office in RTH 110 for review and approval:
    1. Proposed Course Plan;
    2. Application for Admission to Progressive Master’s Program;
    3. PDP application worksheet;
    4. Updated STARS report (OASIS);
    5. Current Transfer Credit report (OASIS);
    6. Letters of recommendation may be submitted in signed and sealed envelopes or the faculty may send directly to: Progressive Degree Application, Viterbi Admission and Student Affairs Office, RTH 110, Mail code: 2900.
  9. If the application for admission is approved, the Viterbi Admission and Student Affairs Office will be responsible for submitting the approved application and Proposed Course Plan to the Degree Progress department.
  10. The Proposed Course Plan is reviewed by the Degree Progress department and if approved, the Graduate Program of Study is activated and a confirmation email is sent to the applicant.
