Undergraduate Student Fabrication Lab Policies/Guidelines
General Use:
- Undergraduates must check in and have their project reviewed and approved by the Fab Lab Technician prior to using any equipment.
- Students will check into the facility by using their USC ID prior to utilizing equipment. USC ID’s will be scanned for tracking and monitoring purposes.
- Due to the size of the lab space and expense related to maintaining the equipment, students will not be permitted in the lab unless they are working on a project.
Safety:
- Students will be expected to follow all safety standards outlined and take safety precautions seriously.
- Students will need to check with the technician on staff before utilizing any tools or equipment to insure they are familiar with operating procedures and guidelines.
- Safety glasses are to be worn at all times when any piece of equipment is operating.
- Use of dust masks will be required when using some materials. Students will be advised before use.
- For safety reasons long sleeve shirts, shorts or sandals can not be worn while working on projects in the lab. Additionally, students will need to tie back any long hair before operating equipment.
- Students utilizing the router for projects must remain in the area while until it stops running to insure proper operation.
Cleanliness:
- It is expected that the Fab Lab will be used by many students, therefore, all students using the facility will be expected to take responsibility for maintaining a clean and safe work environment. As students finish a project and leave the lab, they are expected to clean the machines used and the work area, so that the facility is in good working order for the next student utilizing the equipment and space.
- Students are expected to take all supplies and projects they are working on with them when they leave the lab. There is no space to store projects that are in progress. All materials related to the project must therefore be removed when the student leaves for the day.
Students not meeting any of the above expectations and requirements will be prohibited from further utilizing the facility.

- Monday 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
- Tuesday and Thursday 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
