Hometown: Houston, TX
High School: William P. Clements High School
What made you decide to attend USC: I attended an overnight Explore USC visit and fell in love with the campus. It really impressed me that everyone I met had so many good things to say about Viterbi and USC. Plus, I was looking to move out-of-state for college but still enjoy the perks of a big city, and Los Angeles fit the bill perfectly.
Best experience/interaction with a professor: Working in Dr. Bickers’s office on honors physics homework sets—he stays until all of our questions are answered, even if it means being there until 9 at night. His dedication to teaching is unparalleled.
Favorite Class: POSC 340 – Constitutional Law with Professor Auerbach
Involvements/extracurricular activities: AeroDesign Team, USC Equestrian Team, Merit Research Program, Viterbi Graduate Admission (student worker), Association of Trustee and Presidential Scholars, Thematic Option Program, W.V.T. Rusch Engineering Honors Program, Society of Women Engineers
Favorite on-campus event: any home football game—it’s so incredible to walk around campus and see everyone’s Trojan spirit!
Best off-campus experience: camping in Joshua Tree National Park
Favorite memory from freshman year: being serenaded by the band during finals week—it was a great break in studying
What you like about being in LA: There are so many great places to eat and interesting places to explore. As a native Southerner, I also really appreciate the balmy California weather!
Research/study abroad experience: I participate in the Merit Research Program under the direction of Ewald Schuster. My main role in his project is to make fiberglass and carbon fiber parts for a sixth-scale radio-controlled Harrier Jet. Lately, I’ve also learned how to make the molds that we use to lay up composite parts, as well as machine metal parts.
Hobbies/interests: cooking/baking, camping, horseback riding, knitting
