Hometown: Vancouver, WA
High School: Columbia River High School
What made you decide to attend USC: The variety of electives and specializations available for biomedical engineering, as well as the friendly students and inviting campus atmosphere. The great weather doesn’t hurt either!
Best experience/interaction with a professor: During my sophomore year, I took a folklore class to satisfy a general education requirement. One day, our professor spent an entire class period showing us YouTube videos as examples of contemporary folklore. For instance, we watched three different “This is SPARTA!” mashup videos before discussing them as a class. It was cool to learn about folklore in today’s world.
Favorite Class: ISE344 Engineering Team Management and DENT412 Fundamentals of Craniofacial and Dental Technology
Involvements/extracurricular activities: Now: Women in Engineering Student Worker, Tau Beta Pi Recording Secretary, Female Undergraduates Educating and Leading in Science, Associated Students of Biomedical Engineering, Viterbi Funding Board, Society of Women Engineers. Then: Resident Advisor at Annenberg Apartments, Building Government
Favorite on-campus event: Meeting Yul Kwon, winner of Survivor: Cook Islands! He is a really cool guy and it was neat to hear what he’s been doing after his time on the show.
Best off-campus experience: GOING TO DISNEYLAND! Seeing Britney Spears in concert! Going to a special exhibit downtown at the Fashion Institute where I saw costumes from movies like Harry Potter, Sweeney Todd, Enchanted, Hairspray, and Beowulf!
Favorite memory from freshman year: Getting my transfer acceptance letter to USC!
What you like about being in LA: There’s so much to do! Shopping, exploring new restaurants and different cultures, museums and special exhibits, theme parks…there is something for everyone.
Hobbies/interests: YouTube, reading classic novels (The Scarlet Letter is my favorite), Disney, Harry Potter, crossword puzzles, pop culture
