Class of 2011

B.S. Civil Engineering (Building Science)

Hometown: Centreville, VA

High School: Thomas Jefferson HSST

What made you decide to attend USC: I was drawn to the opportunities that I could have at the Viterbi School of Engineering, and I was very interested in the building science emphasis offered under the civil engineering program. It was the perfect mix of architecture and engineering that I was looking for. Also, coming from the east coast, I wanted to have new experiences and change of environment that USC offers.

Best experience/interaction with a professor: When I studied abroad in Madrid, Spain with the Viterbi Summer Oversea’s Program, we brought USC professors with us to teach our classes. I loved the classes because of the teachers’ enthusiasm, but the best part was being able to travel with them on the weekend trips because they would share all of their experiences with us and I enjoyed getting to know my teachers outside of the classroom.

Favorite Class: ARCH 305 Building Science II with Tigran Ayrapetyan. I've never had a professor who was so enthusiastic aout teaching.

Involvements/extracurricular activities: American Society of Civil Engineers, USC Chamber Ballet Company

Favorite on-campus event: Conquest and the welcome back concert.

Best off-campus experience: I love being able to leave campus and go into LA, but one of my favorite things to do off-campus is to go hiking in the mountains around Los Angeles. It's always fun to find a new trail!

Favorite memory from freshman year: Going to the Weekender football game up at UC Berkeley with a bunch of friends from my hall.

What you like about being in LA: The diversity that LA provides is unbelievable. There is a multitude of restaurants, shops, music venues, beaches, museums, and other cultural spots that are unique from other large cities, and the mix of cultures results in an endless amount of things to do and so many different places to go! I also love that LA is a booming developing place for business, which means there are many opportunities for students to gain experience in their field.

Research/study abroad experience: Viterbi Summer Oversea’s Program (Madrid)

Hobbies/interests: Ballet, hiking, live music, traveling
