Hometown: Upland, CA
High School: St. Lucy's Priory High School
What made you decide to attend USC: I first visited USC as a junior at one of the Meet USC days and their attention to undergraduate students, especially in engineering made me feel that this school would help me grow both academically and personally in order to pursue my professional goals. Each time I visited the campus after that, I became more and more impressed and fell in love with the school. The students are friendly, the professors are approachable, and the school spirit is awesome!!
Best experience/interaction with a professor: My professor for CE 106 and CE 325 truly wanted to get to know each of us. For example, by the end of the first week knew the entire class by first and last name. This kind of dedication to the students made me feel welcome and demonstrated the Trojan Family spirit. Towards the end of the semester he even put on a BBQ for the entire class. I still talk to him and he’s always willing to help students out long after you’ve moved on from his classes.
Favorite Class: CE 334L Mechanics of Materials… aka “the class where you get to break stuff”
Involvements/extracurricular activities: A social sorority, Engineers Without Borders, ATPS, American Society of Civil Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, a summer internship with Turner Construction.
Favorite on-campus event: Conquest!!... USC vs UCLA rivalry at its best.
Best off-campus experience: WEEKENDER!! Going up to San Francisco with sooo many USC students is the coolest thing ever and so much fun… we really do take over the city for the weekend.
Favorite memory from freshman year: I went to Honduras over Spring Break with Engineers Without Borders to build a water filtration system for a village. Traveling to a developing country and immersing yourself in their way of life was such an eye-opening experience and solidified my desire to do this kind of work professionally.
What you like about being in LA: I grew up in Southern California, but being in LA is like being in a different world. There is so much to do, see and experience that it’s hard to pin-point a favorite reason, but I would say that you would never be bored! The beaches and shops are fantastic, shows are easy to find, sports events are everywhere and exploring downtown with friends have made up some of my favorite nights here at USC.
Research/study abroad experience: I’ve done research off and on here at USC that’s given me a great exposure to work done in the civil engineering field. I went on the Viterbi Summer Abroad program in Madrid, Spain two summers ago and it was AWESOME. It was so much fun to live in a foreign city and experience the culture first-hand. It’s hard to put my experience into words, I just want to tell everyone to go and experience it for themselves! Last Spring I went abroad again, this time to Scotland.
Hobbies/interests: The color green, Starbucks white mochas, Disneyland, swimming/running/staying active, traveling the world, the beach, 80’s rock music, Pride and Prejudice (the book), 10 Things I Hate About You (the movie), learning about global issues, being blonde (we really do have more fun), anything USC, and quote collecting of which my favorite is by Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Do not follow where the path may lead, instead go where there is no path and leave a trail.”
