Senior

Class of 2011

B.S. Civil (Structural) Engineering

Hometown: Seattle, WA

High School: Holy Names Academy

What made you decide to attend USC: When I visited SC for the first time, the campus really made an impression on me. Trojan spirit was visible everywhere; every student seemed to be wearing cardinal and gold! The staff at Viterbi got to know me on a more personal level than any other school I visited. After meeting faculty during my first visit, some of them even remembered me when I came back the next time. It was refreshing to know that although USC is a large University with so many diverse opportunities, the faculty members are always there for you.

Best experience/interaction with a professor: I was having problems with my Differential Equations homework, so I went into Professor Redekopp’s (Department of Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering) office hours. He spent over an hour working with me on one problem, and explained every detail of the process. He even stayed past when he normally held office hours just to help me. He’s one of the most patient professors I’ve had so far.

Favorite Class: Los Angeles Stories with Professor Freeman

Involvements/extracurricular activities: Best Buddies Mentor Program, Member of a Social Sorority, American Society of Civil EngineersAssociation of General Contractors, Construction Management Association of America

Favorite on-campus event: Common performed my freshman year, and I was in the 3rd row…it was amazing.

Best off-campus experience: Running up Runyon Canyon in the morning and watching the sunrise over LA right when I got to the top of the trail.

Favorite memory from freshman year: I lived in New North, and every Saturday before football games I would be woken up by the fight song playing outside my window in McCarthy Quad.

What you like about being in LA: It’s completely different from where I grew up (Seattle), and there is always something going on. Whether it’s discovering new restaurants, going to the beach, or going to sports events there is always something to do here.

Research/study abroad experience: Viterbi Summer Overseas to Madrid, Spain

Hobbies/interests: Soccer, running, going to the beach, listening to music, dancing
