Hometown: Manila, Philippines
High School: Woodrose
What made you decide to attend USC: As an international student, I was attracted to USC’s reputation for cultural diversity. The university’s reputable engineering program was also a definite pull factor, along with the variety of organizations and student interest groups on campus. I liked the fact that majority of students reside on campus, which helps a lot in establishing USC as our “home”. Combine that with an incredible sense of Trojan spirit and family, and I knew I just had to be a part of it.
Best experience/interaction with a professor: My IOM (Information and Operations Management) professor is a brilliant lady full of energy. I enjoy visiting her during office hours to talk about anything, including topics on psychology, which is a common interest we share.
Favorite Class: IOM 431 (Information Technology Strategy) because the material we learn in class has direct relevance to real-life work scenarios. My class also got to meet CEO's and executives, like the Vice President of IBM! SOCI-142 (Diversity and Racial Conflict) was also a great, stimulating class where we tackled pressing racial issues. It was refreshing to be able to talk about issues most people avoid in regular conversations.
Involvements/extracurricular activities: Information Systems Association (ISA), Society of Women Engineers (SWE), USC Repertory Dance Company, Break On 2 salsa performance team
Favorite on-campus event: End-of-semester performances with my dance groups are the highlight of my semester. Performing at Bovard Auditorium and the Bing Theater brings so much adrenaline and excitement!
Best off-campus experience: Traveling to Phoenix, AZ for a west-coast conference for the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). It felt amazing to meet tons of talented and successful female engineers who are involved with SWE.
Favorite memory from freshman year: Discovering hang-out spots in different rooftops on campus
What you like about being in LA: I love the diversity, the weather, being close to the beach, and having access to so many activities and sources of entertainment (restaurants, shopping, concerts, theme parks, etc.)
Research/study abroad experience: I had two internship experiences in the Philippines -- one for a Caterpillar Equipment dealership and one for KPMG. Gaining work experience is incredibly advantageous, and USC does a good job helping students find internships.
Hobbies/Interests: Salsa, ballet, jazz, hip hop, traveling, playing (jazz) piano, and discovering new/ amazing places to eat around LA!
