Apple announced recently they are no longer releasing updates and security patches for Quicktime for Windows. US-CERT and Homeland Security notes at least 2 vulnerabilities with Quicktime and recommends it to be uninstalled from all Windows computers. If you have an office computer on campus that is managed by Viterbi IT, we will automate the Quicktime uninstallation process starting on Wednesday, 5/4/16. The uninstallation process will happen in the background so you may not notice it happening. You should not need to restart your computer.
• The Quicktime automated uninstallation process is only for your on campus office computer. If you have a School issued laptop, please let us know if you would like a technician to uninstall it for you by creating a service ticket in Viterbi Service Desk in MyViterbi or email email@example.com.
• By Friday, if you still see Quicktime on your office computer, please let us know by creating a service ticket.
• If you require Quicktime for business related reasons, please contact Viterbi IT to see if there is an alternative that will meet your needs.
• If you would like to uninstall Quicktime on Windows devices that you own, please see this link for instructions: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205771.
For staff computers that do not come under Viterbi IT support, please inquire with your department IT.
