Faculty

The USC Viterbi School of Engineering boasts an excellent faculty of growing strength with 199 tenure-track faculty.

Viterbi's faculty roster includes 35 members of the National Academy of Engineering, 99 NSF Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) Awards, 13 winners of PECASE Early Career awards, and the 2003 winner of the Association for Computing's Turing Prize, often described as the "Nobel Prize in computing." More than a third of the faculty have been elected fellows of their respective professional societies.

Increasing the diversity of its faculty is an important goal of the Viterbi School. Significantly contributing to this effort is the  Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) Program.

Message From the Dean

Mentoring is a most fundamental continuous act in helping the intellectual and spiritual growth of a human being, in their quest for forging their path in life. It is different and additive to nurturing- which connotes a parent-child relation with a material component. Rather, it is a relationship of soon-to-be equals. The mentor is an inexhaustible source of mental and psychological support, which solidifies one's fortitude and helps unleash one's potential.

Mentoring provides texture, advice and context to help individuals increase their vision of the future, hone their skills, solidify their approach, stoke their passion. It requires mutual trust, sincerity, and respect; and provides the priceless enjoyment of helping someone reach their potential to the fullest. It is a wonderful process of discovery, for both the mentor and the mentee. It is therefore quintessentially human. For this reason has a natural and required home in academic and research environments.

We are fortunate to be able to be in the position of practicing and celebrating it.
