    Our presentation begins by discussing reasons you should get involved in research. We also go over how you can get involved, with tips for freshmen who just started computer science as well for more experienced computer scientists. Next, we'll move on to careers in academia, focusing with what you can do now to set yourself on a track for a successful career. Last, we'll finish by discussing Research and Development, a type of job that lies in the intersection between research and industry.

    This event is perfect for people who are already passionate about research or those who aren't sure whether research is for them. You'll hear from people with experience researching at USC, working for a research and development company, and applying for scholarships for graduate school.     Next up in MEGA's Student Speaker Series is Sheehan Ahmed with Left On Read and the European Bug! Watch the live presentation on Zoom this Friday, September 18 at 5:00 PM PST to learn about Ahmed's experience as an engineer working on Left On Read, a choice-driven narrative platformer where you play as a college freshman texting your crush. During the creation of Left On Read, Ahmed and his team discovered a bug that only affected European players, leaving them hardstuck at the beginning of the game.

    Sheehan Ahmed is currently a sophomore at USC pursuing a degree in Interactive Media and Games. Released in May 2020 and with over 200,000 downloads, Left On Read is a quarantine-inspired game about the harsh realities of modern-age communication. Join us this Friday as we talk all about game programming and unravel the mystery behind the European bug! Have any questions for Sheehan?     Tutorials are an important part of any game, but how do you make a good one? Join us this Friday, September 25 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM PST to learn about what goes into designing a game tutorial. In Learning How to Teach How to Learn, Josh discusses the process of designing the tutorial level for the Intermediate Game Project Fade Away. From the basics of creating a simple tutorial to how they can impact the player throughout the game, this presentation has something for beginners and experienced game developers alike!

    Josh Fickes is a junior at USC pursuing a major in Interactive Media and Game Design with a minor in Animation for Games. Besides Fade Away, Josh has experience working on several games such as Sleep Safe and Sound. He is also currently the lead designer on Advanced Game Project (AGP) Leechbug.
