David Crain, is a Lecturer at the Viterbi School of Engineering, University of Southern California . He has more than 25 years of experience managing marketing, strategy, and engineering functions in a corporate setting. He was Director of Markets and Strategies for Fluor Corporation, which, at $19 billion in revenues, is one of the largest engineering and construction firms in the world. While at Fluor, Dr. Crain managed a staff of 6 market researchers performing analysis of the engineering and construction industry including the marketplace, competitors, partners, merger-and-acquisition targets, and related economic, business and political conditions around the world. He advised Fluor on strategy issues such as branding, mission/vision formulation, market research and segmentation, and geographical positioning and related strategies. In recent teaching (2017), Dr. Crain conducted strategy lectures for Saudi Arabian project and construction managers--critical functions in Saudi Aramco's impending privatization and Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030. Prior to joining Fluor, David Crain managed competitive analysis and strategic planning for Los Angeles-based Pacific Enterprises (now Sempra Energy), an $11 billion energy-services conglomerate, where he lead that company’s initial expansion into Mexico. Previously, Dr. Crain has taught strategy to MBA students at several local universities including USC’s Marshall School of Business Administration.
