Biography

I am an Adjunct Research Assistant Professor at the USC Institute for Creative Technologies and the Department of Computer Science at the University of Southern California.

My research lies in the area of natural language dialogue systems, which converse and interact with human speakers in a natural language such as English. The central theme of my research is to enable dialogue systems to respond to the inevitable uncertainties of communication in a way that is more flexible, more robust, and more human-like.

I have been particularly interested in incremental language processing, improving how systems respond to uncertainty, andscaling up systems into larger conversational domains.
