Led by Robert F. Lucas, ISI’s Computational Systems and Technology division seeks to solve complex science, engineering and defense problems through novel supercomputing approaches. He directs experts in computer architecture, VLSI, compilers and other software tools in maximizing high-end systems use, and has served on national task forces charting critical supercomputing needs.
Lucas joined ISI in 2001 from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where he directed the Research Department at the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center. Lucas has been a deputy director and program manager at DARPA, a researcher at the Center for Computing Sciences, and a technical staff member at Hughes Aircraft Company. He received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University.
