Message from the Chair
The AME department continues to expand with the hiring of Professor Assad Oberai who joined AME from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in January 2018, and Professor Carlos Pantano-Rubino who will be joining AME in January 2019 from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Both conduct research in computational science and engineering, with applications to human health and care, soft materials, and multiphase and reacting flows.
Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering remain attractive majors with the number of enrolled freshmen increasing from 94 to 115 this year. We are very fortunate to have excellent students and accomplished teaching faculty. AME seniors took first place in the AIAA Region 6 Student Conference at UC Merced and the AME AeroDesign Team (ADT) continues to rank among top teams in the annual AIAA Design-Build-Fly competition, earning 6th place in 2018, while the AME Racing Team Formula SAE had its best ever finish in the annual competition, earning 12th place.
So, welcome and read on about what has been going on in the AME department this last year and what more is expected in the near future.
