Biomedical Engineering
October 2018
Message from Department Chair Kirk Shung:
I am humbled to be appointed the new chair of the BME department. One of the goals after becoming the chair is to increase the visibility of the department among our peers. To do so, the website has been revamped, a Facebook page and a Twitter account have been created, a newsletter campaign has been launched, and a new issue of the Viterbi magazine will be devoted to BME.

I am also delighted to share several distinctions achieved by BME personnel which are described in the articles that follow. In particular, I would also like to highlight the following achievements:
  • Prof. Vasilis Marmarelis received a $10 million, 5-year NIH grant
  • Prof. Eun Ji Chung received the 2018 Young Innovator Award in nanobiotechnology and a USC Faculty Mentoring Award
  • Prof. Ellis Meng received the 2018 IEEE EMBS Technical Achievement Award
