September 29, 2006 — Closely following his award of the prestigious James H. Mulligan, Jr. IEEE Education Medal, Sanjit Mitra, the Viterbi School’s Varra Professor (Electrical Engineering – Systems) who is internationally known for his work in analog and digital signal and image processing, has made it a double by winning the Education Award of the IEEE Signal Processing Society.

The Signal Processing Education Awards honors educators who have made pioneering and significant contributions to signal processing education. Nominees are judged by a career of meritorious achievement in signal processing education as exemplified by writing of scholarly books and texts, course materials, and papers on education; inspirational and innovative teaching; creativity in the development of new curricula and methodology. His citation reads "for outstanding contributions to education and to the writing of scholarly and influential books in the area of digital signal processing."
