The total represents a 30 percent increase over 2007, when 272 DEN candidates obtained degrees. That figure was a 30 percent increase over the 210 degrees awarded in 2006.
This year's graduates include Korean Air employees Byeong Gong and Chan Song, who earned ISE master's degrees while living and working in Korea, the first ever to do so from outside the U.S.
"It's always exciting to see DEN's successful delivery system enable talented students anywhere in the US, and around the world, complete their program from a distance" said Kelly Goulis, associate dean of Master's and Professional Programs "We congratulate all of our graduates for their hard work and success. We are proud to have them as part of our Trojan Family."
The American students came from 27 states, in addition to Korea. Most (233) were from California, but other substantial contingents came from Texas (18), Washington (16), Missouri (11), Arizona (10), Michigan (7), and Virginia (7).
Companies supporting the most students were Boeing (132), Northrop Grumman (32), Raytheon (33), and Lockheed Martin (16) and Google, Occidental Petroleum, NASA, JPL, Toshiba, Oracle, and 3M also now have employees with new Viterbi School diplomas.
The breakdown of degrees: aerospace and mechanical engineering(10), aerospace (18), astronautical (25), biomedical (BME) (6), civil (1), computer engineering (4), computer science (50), electrical (74), engineering management (21), industrial and systems (7), mechanical (16), medical device & diagnostic (6), petroleum (4), product development (7), and systems architecting & engineering (105).
