James Moore II has been named a fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers, and also elected to a two-year term on the IIE Board of Trustees as Senior Vice President for Continuing Education.

Moore is a professor in the Daniel J. Epstein Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, and also serves as the department's chair.

IIE Fellows are elected annually; candidates must have been senior members of the organization for more than 10 consecutive years, with exceptional accomplishments in one of three professional areas: management, technical innovation or innovation in practice.

Additionally, they must have demonstrated significant contributions to the field of Industrial Engineering, either in IIE activity, or visible volunteer interdisciplinary or IE promotional activity.

Moore also won election to the IIE board as Senior Vice President, a placement tied to the Viterbi School's outstanding efforts in the field, exemplified by the Distance Education Network. "IIE is good at content," said Moore. "DEN is great at delivery."

Moore's achievements will be acknowledged at the May 31, 2009 IIE meeting in Miami, Florida.
