Roger Ghanem
Roger Ghanem, who holds appointments in the AME and the Astani Departments, will receive the U.S. Association for Computational Mechanics Computational Structural Mechanics Award for 2009.

The commendation, signed by USACM President Thomas C. Bickel, cites "outstanding and sustained contributions to the development and dissemination of uncertainty quantification methods and their application to structural engineering.”

Ghanem will receive the plaque at the July 19 USACM Appreciation Dinner during the 10th U.S. National Congress on Computational Mechanics in Columbus, Ohio.

Ghanem is a specialist in advanced techniques for improving the reliabilly of computer models by accurately quantifying uncertainty. He has organized several seminars and workshops on the topic, most recently one held April 12-14 in Davidson Conference Center on "Opportunities and Challenges in Uncertainty Quantification for Complex Interacting Systems "

Ghanem came to USC in 2005 from Johns Hopkins University.
