Why: Commissioner Stein will meet with startups launched via the Viterbi Startup Garage and participate in a roundtable discussion with Garage companies and Los Angeles-area technology leaders about raising capital and crowd funding.

The USC Viterbi Startup Garage is currently hosting it's second cohort. The 2014 teams are comprised of both software and hardware companies. This event will be an opportunity to connect with the teams directly in their workspace and to see and hear about their products. Members from the following 2014 Viterbi Startup Garage teams will attend: Awesomesauce Labs, Bezalel, Emotiful, Muko, NV Drones, Ventata, Wauw. Two companies launched from last year's Garage will also attend: AIO Robotics and MediaHound.

About the USC Viterbi Startup Garage
Launched the summer of 2013, the USC Viterbi Startup Garage provided financial and strategic resources to a select group of companies created by USC student and alumni entrepreneurs to support the growth of the Los Angeles technology marketplace, which often loses much of its talent to Silicon Valley.

About SEC Commissioner Kara M. Stein
Kara M. Stein was appointed by President Barack Obama to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and was sworn in on August 9, 2013. Ms. Stein joined the Commission after serving as Legal Counsel and Senior Policy Advisor for securities and banking matters to Sen. Jack Reed.  From 2009 to 2013, she was Staff Director of the Securities, Insurance, and Investment Subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. During that time, Ms. Stein played an integral role in drafting and negotiating significant provisions of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.
