Viterbi IT Email is hosted on a Microsoft 2007 Exchange Server. Advantages to using the Viterbi IT Exchange Server Email over USC's Email system are as follows:
Most Viterbi School of Engineering staff has an email account on the Viterbi Exchange Server. Such service is currently available to the following academic departments: ASTE, BME, CEE, CS, EEP, MFD, ISE and ITP.
Your email address will be in this format: Username@vsoe.usc.edu and Firstname.LastName@vsoe.usc.edu (many users have opted to use their USC email address whereby incoming emails are set to auto-forward from the USC email server to the Viterbi Exchange server).
You can access your Viterbi email using various email clients such as Microsoft Outlook (Windows), Microsoft Entourage (Mac), Apple Mail (Mac) or the web version of Outlook (aka Outlook Web Access).
Using the Web Version of Outlook (OWA)
The web version of Outlook (OWA) has most of the same features as the software version yet because it operates through your web browsers, it requires no configuration and you do not need to own the Outlook software. The web version of Outlook can be accessed from any computer with a browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x or newer is preferred) and Internet connection.
• You may access the web version of Outlook at: http://vsoemail.usc.edu
• Logon using your Viterbi username and password.
A downloadable PDF to using Outlook Web Access is available here.
Using the Software Version of Outlook
If you own the software version of Outlook (Office 2007, Outlook 2010), it can be configured to connect to your Viterbi account; however, due to the complexity of configuring the software version of Outlook and the limited number of resources available, configuration support is limited to an online connection only. We do not offer support for offline access and synchronization. Please navigate to the Viterbi IT Knowledge Base for downloadable step by step instructions.
