The Engineering and Autism Workshop is a one-day national workshop at USC that aims to bring together engineering researchers, especially in the broad domain of social/affective and communicative behavioral computing, with leading Autism researchers and clinicians as well as the broader community of stakeholders including families. It aims to highlight and explore the opportunities and possibilities of engineering and computing advances in supporting research and translation in Autism by creating synergies and partnerships by initiating a multidisciplinary dialog.
The focus of the workshop is on Social Communication and Interaction Development in Autism. Leading Autism researchers will speak about early detection and intervention advances while engineering researchers will highlight advances in sensing, behavioral signal processing, computing and behavioral informatics that hold promise for supporting Autism research and clinical translation. A panel of experts will discuss the potential, challenges and new directions for collaborative partnerships across the community.
The Engineering and Autism Workshop is sponsored and hosted by the Ming Hsieh Institute of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. It is also hosted by the Center of Behavior Imaging of Georgia Institute of Technology and the Center of Autism Research in Engineering (CARE) of the USC Signal Analysis and Interpretation Laboratory.
Other workshop affiliates include Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign, Boston University, Carnegie Mellon University, Emory University, Northeastern University and the University of Pittsburgh. The collaborative Expeditions in Computing on Computational Behavioral Science is supported by the National Science Foundation.More Information: flyer program.pdf

Talk Title: Itâs About Time! (Making Best Use of Information in Time)
Abstract: Everybody loves ADCs... And recently there has been a lot of chatter about Time-to-Digital Converters (TDCs). I haven't made up my mind yet about TDCs, but there certainly is an interesting aspect of TDCs in that the focus is on time rather than voltage. As we look more deeply into this, we are finding there are benefits to reap from making best use of time--information in time or time domain signal processing and analysis. Like anything else, these ideas are sure to be showered with doubts and criticisms. However, we can not ignore the possibility that such use of time may be leading us into a new era of ADCs that could yield exceptional power efficiency and performance. This talk will summarize a few well known techniques on this topic, as well as some recent developments in my own research team at the Oregon State University.
Biography: Prof. Un-Ku Moon has been with the Oregon State University since 1998. Prior to that, he was with Bell Labs (Reading & Allentown) 1988-1989 and 1994-1998. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Washington, a master's degree from Cornell University, and a PhD from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. His current research activities are found at http://eecs.oregonstate.edu/~moon/research.
