Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. – Hardware Engineering Info Session
Fri, Oct 30, 2020 @ 02:00 PM - 03:00 PM
Viterbi School of Engineering Career Connections
Workshops & Infosessions
Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. would like to invite you to their Virtual Open House Info Session Series!
Topic: Hardware Engineering
Dates: Friday, October 30
Time: 2:00 PM PST / 5:00 PM EST
Duration: 1 hour
Please go to Viterbi Career Gateway for more registration information.
At these events, students will learn about Samsung Semiconductors (SSI) Intern Program and the opportunities Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. have available for summer 2021. The events focus around five different functional areas and each day, they will feature a speaker from one of their R&D labs. At SSI, students have the opportunity to work with the teams that create new computing system architectures needed to support emerging machine learning applications, internet of things (IoT) and edge computing that benefit millions of users. The program will give students the opportunity to work on unique solutions that address some of the world's most complex technological challenges.
Come join SSI and find out what exciting opportunities they have planned for the summer interns in 2021 and have a chance to win some Samsung prizes!More Information: SAMSUNG FLYER.jpg

AME PhD Student Seminar
Fri, Oct 30, 2020 @ 03:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering
Conferences, Lectures, & Seminars
Speaker: Arturo Cajal, USC AME PhD Student
Talk Title: Modeling natural transition in RANS simulations
Abstract: One approach for improving the accuracy of Reynolds-Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) simulations is to model the transition from laminar to turbulent flow process, particularly for low Reynolds numbers and transitional flow applications. In this work, two RANS turbulence models and three RANS transitional models, with different formulation approaches, are assessed and compared. Physics-based models offer a broader range of applicability because no empirical correlations are needed to model the transition process. Additionally, these models avoid some of the current Computational Fluid Dynamics limitations such as the use of integral quantities in unstructured grids and/or parallel computations. Thus, the physics-based Laminar Kinetic Energy model was chosen to include the effects of crossflow instabilities to make it more robust and potentially improve its predictive capability.
Biography: Arturo is a Ph.D. student working in Prof. A. Uranga Aerodynamics Design and Research Laboratory. His research focuses on modeling transition from laminar to turbulent flow for low Reynolds number flows. Arturo received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 2016, and his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from USC in 2018.

Ever wonder how classic video game soundtracks became so memorable? Come join us this Friday, October 30 at 5:00 PM PST for How Technological Limitations Created Iconic Game Soundtracks with student speaker Noah Lee! Various jumps in game technology have resulted in the iconic video game music that we know and love today. Noah will cover how exactly these old soundtracks were created, as well as how they became a highly desired aspect of the indie scene.
Noah Lee is currently a junior at USC majoring in Interactive Media and Game Design. Noah has experience as a music composer and game designer. We ask that attendees please bring headphones, as this presentation is an audio experience as well as visual! No prior experience with music or sound design is necessary. Have any questions for Noah? Stick around after the presentation for a quick Q&A session!
