    Conferences, Lectures, & Seminars

    Guest Speaker: Professor Xiaochuan Pan,
    Ph.D., Department of Radiology
The University of Chicago Abstract: In the presentation, I will discuss some of recently developed analytic and optimization-based algorithms for image reconstruction in diagnostic CT, emerging cone-beam CT, and their implications for CT applications. A focus of the discussion will be on contrast of differences between analytic and optimization-based algorithms, on clarification of a number of issues, such as the relationship between the Nyquist sampling theorem and compressive sensing approach, and on elucidation of the impact of algorithm design and implementation on image quality. I will also devote some time to demonstrate that the utility of some existing metrics for image-quality evaluation can be limited and that the "mathematic exactness" of an algorithm can be an irrelevant metric for a meaningful evaluation of algorithms' performance in practical applications.Hosted by Professor Richard Leahy
