Los Angeles has nourished a dazzling array of experimental cinemas: avant-garde and art films; films by people of color, women and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community; psychedelic and structural films; and many other radical alternatives to the commercial feature-film industry. Including filmmakers, scholars and programmers, this avant-garde extravaganza will explore the vibrant history of alternatives to mainstream Hollywood with screenings of important and amazing films—many of which have been newly preserved—as well as a conference and exhibits.
