Mashirika, the most acclaimed theatre company in Rwanda, will be at USC to perform their powerful and vibrant production, Africaâs Hope, which explores the stories of Rwandan genocide survivors. In conjunction with their visit, members of Mashirika will share their techniques in play-building and conflict resolution in an intensive theatre workshop on art and transformation.
Established in 1997, Mashirika is composed of artists from a variety of disparate cultures who were exiled in Uganda during the 1994 genocide. This core group of actors, dancers and musicians is dedicated to presenting workshops and plays exploring issues around collective trauma, conflict resolution, HIV/AIDS education, genocide healing and reconciliation.Location: Drama Center (DRC) - Massman Theatre
