Biography

As an associate professor of technology and applied computing practice in the Viterbi School of Engineering at the University of Southern California, Dr. Trina Gregory teaches computer programming and technology-focused courses to undergraduate students. She also serves as an associate director of innovation and entrepreneurship under the Viterbi School of Engineering’s Office of Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship (TIE). Under this role, she teaches entrepreneurial skills to engineers and supports student teams with their startup ventures.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Mathematics-Computer Science from UCSD, she worked full-time in the computer science industry for over 13 years. While being employed by SAIC, she designed, developed, and managed software for the Department of Defense. In 2002, she started part-time lecturing for the Computer Science department at San Diego State University. This ignited her passion for teaching and led her to start teaching at USC in 2007. She received a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Computer Science and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in Organizational Change and Leadership from USC. Her research focused on the learning environments for undergraduate engineering students to improve their engineering identity and increase the rates of women graduating with engineering degrees and pursuing engineering careers.

She has taught classes in Python, Java, Swift, and Objective-C programming, web publishing, information technology, and mobile apps. Whether it is a new class or one she has taught before, Trina is constantly updating the course materials to keep up-to-date with the latest technologies and to improve the learning outcomes. She loves helping students achieve their goals and is involved in various student organizations.

For the Spring 2025 semester, she holds open office hours on Tuesdays at 4 - 6 pm and Thursday at 11:30 am - 1:30 pm in RRB 243. You can also schedule one-to-one meetings with her using Calendly.
