WiSE Gabilan Assistant Professor of Computer Science
Education
- Doctoral Degree, Electrical Engineering, Stanford University
- Bachelor's Degree, Physics, Peking University
Biography
I am an incoming Assistant Professor of Computer Science at USC, starting January 2024. I received my Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 2022, where I was fortunate to work with Prof. James Zou. Currently, I am a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Biomedical Data Science at Stanford University.
Research Summary
My research lies in the intersection of machine learning and its applications in human diseases, health and genomics.
(1) AI for Medicine and Healthcare.
I work on using AI to advance clinical trials and precision medicine. Very honored that my project Trial Pathfinder - using AI to make clinical trials more inclusive - was selected as 2022 Top Ten Clinical Research Achievement and Finalist for Global Pharma Award 2021.
(2) Machine Learning.
I develop efficient and reliable machine learning methods with potential applications in biomedicine. For example, I propose new optimal transport formulations to align datasets, language modeling for medication history, and adaptive memory-changing algorithms for reinforcement learning.
(3) Computational Genomics.
I build computational tools to study single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics. I am particularly interested in studying how genetic variants affect diseases and drug responses.
