  • Research at USC and Careers in Academia

    Thu, Sep 17, 2020 @ 07:00 PM - 08:00 PM

Thomas Lord Department of Computer Science

    Student Activity

Are you looking to get involved in research at USC? Considering pursuing a PhD or a career in academia? Join ACM for a presentation and question and answer session about all things research!

Our presentation begins by discussing reasons you should get involved in research. We also go over how you can get involved, with tips for freshmen who just started computer science as well for more experienced computer scientists. Next, we'll move on to careers in academia, focusing with what you can do now to set yourself on a track for a successful career. Last, we'll finish by discussing Research and Development, a type of job that lies in the intersection between research and industry.

This event is perfect for people who are already passionate about research or those who aren't sure whether research is for them. You'll hear from people with experience researching at USC, working for a research and development company, and applying for scholarships for graduate school. We'll stick around if you have any questions afterwards, too! We have so many helpful and fun activities planned for you, and we can't wait to see you there!

Next up in MEGA's Student Speaker Series is Sheehan Ahmed with Left On Read and the European Bug! Watch the live presentation on Zoom this Friday, September 18 at 5:00 PM PST to learn about Ahmed's experience as an engineer working on Left On Read, a choice-driven narrative platformer where you play as a college freshman texting your crush. Sheehan Ahmed is currently a sophomore at USC pursuing a degree in Interactive Media and Games. Released in May 2020 and with over 200,000 downloads, Left On Read is a quarantine-inspired game about the harsh realities of modern-age communication.
